Top 6 Things you need to know about The GLOBE Academy...but were afraid to ask*
*Note...all of these links can also always be found here
1. READ THE CHARTER: Welcome to The GLOBE Academy Charter School. GLOBE is always capitalized as it's an acronym and stands for what our school is: Global Learning Opportunities through Balanced Education. A charter school is a school which receives public funding but operates independently. The "charter" establishing each school is a performance contract detailing the school's mission, program, students served, performance goals, and methods of assessment. Please be sure to read the GLOBE Academy Charter, especially the sections related to constructivism, homework, use of portfolios as an alternative to traditional grades, Positive Discipline and dual-language immersion model.
You can read our charter here: http://globeptcc.weebly.com/documents--links.html
2. UNIFORMS: GLOBE Academy students wear uniforms. You can read about the uniform policies here: http://www.theglobeacademy.org/ourschool/student-life/school-uniforms/
Sometimes the students are invited to wear spirit wear in lieu of uniforms. You can order spirit wear here: http://www.yellowllama.com/theglobeacademy
3. VOLUNTEER: The GLOBE parent volunteer organization is called the Parent Teacher Community Council (PTCC). The PTCC has its own website which has a lot of helpful information including links to teacher and specials blogs: http://globeptcc.weebly.com/ Every parent at GLOBE is a ‘member’ of the PTCC, to join a work group and get involved. Please attend an upcoming meeting.
There are now additional opportunities to volunteer with the sub-committees of the GLOBE Board, more information on how to assist these new committees will be sent out during the school year.
4. CARPOOL: The GLOBE Academy does not provide transportation services and is located in a quiet residential area. We aim to respect our neighbors and each other by strictly following carpool protocol. You can read the guidelines for participating in carpool here: http://globeptcc.weebly.com/carpool-connection.html
5. ROOM PARENTS: Each class or team of classes at GLOBE should have a room parent. You should contact your room parent to make sure you are receiving emails from them. The room parents are often asked to forward important school information to the classes. Your room parent can also provide you with a class contact list, your child’s weekly schedule and your specific class rules for snacks, birthday celebrations, mystery reader program, holiday parties, eating lunch with your child and much more! If you don’t know your room parent, please check with your teachers.
6. PARENT HANDBOOK: Please take time to read the parent handbook. It is your guide to the GLOBE Academy! You can find it here: http://www.theglobeacademy.org/.../parent.../familyhandbook/
It includes a lot of important information including that GLOBE is a nut free school and the following school snack policy: “Healthy Snack Policy: Students may bring healthy, non‐sugary snacks with them to school daily to eat during times designated by the teacher. Because sugary snacks have been proven to negatively affect children’s attention, mood, and ability to focus, we do not allow children to bring such snacks to school. Please see your student’s teacher for more specific guidelines.”
